Automated system for monitoring symptoms of dairy cow diseases using thermographic imaging

The TMVSS Veterinary monitoring system helps to detect diseases of the limbs of dairy cows in the preclinical phase of the disease, i.e. before the first symptoms of the disease appear. Early detection of the disease in monitored individuals allows to shorten and thus reduce the costs of treatment. Early diagnosis can prevent the negative impacts of musculoskeletal diseases, characterized by lameness in dairy cows, lower feed intake, reduced productivity, higher predisposition to mammary gland diseases and metabolic diseases, which ultimately leads to higher demands on individual treatment of dairy cows associated with their treatment.

The system detects symptoms of the disease such as: necrobacillosis, dermatitis, hoof inflammation (e.g. Rusterholz ulcer), or other diseases manifested by changes in the temperature of the limb.

The temperatures of individual parts of the limb and the distribution of apparent temperature fields on specific parts of the limbs are automatically evaluated. These measurements are subsequently stored in the internal memory of the control unit and automatically compared with the trend from previous measurements. The system is fully automatic and does not require the operator to perform further data analysis, such as manual browsing of thermograms or manual evaluation of temperatures. The software interface is divided into an operational/operator workstation and a diagnostic workstation. The entire user interface is in Czech. The system can be implemented into existing technology and it is possible to import identification data from already established structures into the system.
